To become eligible for hospice care, a patient must be diagnosed with a serious illness and have six months or less life expectancy, if the disease runs its natural course. Having an advanced stage of certain illness and disease can qualify a patient for hospice care. Some of these diseases include:

- Pulmonary Disease Renal Disease
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Coma
- Senescence or Debility
- Liver Disease
- Dementia
- Alzheimer’s disease
- HIV/AIDS
- Cancer
- ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis)
- Cardiovascular Disease
